IN NOMINE PATRIS

The work is based on the reconstruction or deconstruction of a Gothic altar. The triptych altar of St. John's Church in Dannenberg was chosen as the template for the manipulation by entering the search terms ‘triptych’ and ‘altar’ into a search engine. Instead of the Passion story depicted in the winged altarpiece in the triptych created in the mid-15th century, IN NOMINE PATRIS negotiates a different kind of Passion on three screens: the decades-long sexual abuse of children and young people in the Roman Catholic Church. Representing the victims, we experience a procession of damaged children's toys in the approximately three-minute animated film, which gradually populate the virtual church interior and finally gather silently under the cross.
